After skipping the team’s optional summer exercises, Mekhi Becton joined the Jets this week for obligatory minicamp. The bulky offensive tackle came back with a letter. The former first-round choice is aiming to disprove his critics after a year in which he missed all but one game in 2021 due to a knee issue.
“To perform better than you did your rookie year and then to be injured and miss the entire season is a lot”, according to Becton. “It’s a lot to manage, but I’ll return with a chip on my shoulder for sure”.
During the first game of the previous season, Becton sustained a dislocated kneecap and a sprained MCL. He was initially expected to recover in 4-5 weeks, but he ended up missing the remainder of the season. According to Becton, his ailing knee became a season-ending injury since he was unable to rebuild its strength. The athlete said that his weight is at a level that will please his coach and that his knee is improving.
