The New York Jets realized they needed to get outside assistance for a squad that obviously wants to win now when Mekhi Becton had a kneecap injury that would terminate his season. The Jets were also aware that George Fant would be available to play at one of the offensive tackle positions, but they weren’t immediately certain if it would be the right or left.
Duane Brown’s acquisition meant that Fant would return to his previous right tackle position. After all, Brown has mostly played left tackle and hasn’t taken a single action at right tackle. Fant and the Jets are now in an intriguing situation as a result. For the Jets, Fant performed better at left tackle than he did on the right, particularly in 2021. He will leave this team at the end of the current campaign.
