Betting Preview: New York Giants vs. Indianapolis Colts

In this Sunday game, Indianapolis has been projected as the heavy favorite and the team’s currently giving up 9 points. In order to take the home favorite, moneyline gamblers would currently need to spend $400 to win $100 back on the Colts (-400). The Giants are getting +300 moneyline odds. Vegas has placed the over/under (O/U) at 47 points, and if one squad catches a lucky break in the early stages, it would probably create a solid betting scenario in-game.

The Giants are 7-6-1 against the spread (ATS) and are down 2.3 units so far. The team’s posted an Over-Under record of 7-7.

The Colts have gained 2.5 units for moneyline bettors this season. They’re 7-6-1 ATS and have an O/U record of 6-8.

The Giants are 5-9 straight up (SU) in 2018 while the Colts are 8-6 SU.

The Giants dropped one to Tennessee 17-0 in a Week 15 thumping where their defense allowed the Titans to eat up the clock by running for 215 yards on 45 rush attempts, including two rush TDs. Derrick Henry shredded the defense in that one with 170 rushing yards and both touchdowns on 33 attempts. On the offense, Eli Manning completed only 21-of-44 passes for 229 yards and one interception. Saquon Barkley (only 31 yards on 14 rush attempts) led the ground attack while Evan Engram (eight receptions, 75 yards) and Barkley (four catches, 25 yards) manned the receiving duties in the defeat.

Indianapolis just earned a 23-0 win over Dallas in Week 15. The defense allowed the Cowboys to run for 112 yards on 22 rush attempts. Ezekiel Elliott was a bright spot in the loss, posting 87 rushing yards on 18 attempts, along with 41 yards on seven catches for Dallas. For Indianapolis, Andrew Luck completed 16-of-27 passes for 192 yards. Marlon Mack (139 yards on 27 rush attempts, two TDs) handled the running attack as T.Y. Hilton (five receptions, 85 yards) and Nyheim Hines (four catches, 45 yards) led the pass-catching attack in the win.

Each of these squads sports a similar run-pass ratio on the season. New York’s run the ball on 37.1 percent of its offensive possessions while Indianapolis has an overall rush percentage of 38.8. The Giants have produced 101.7 rush yards/game and have nine scores on the ground this year. The Colts are logging 107.9 rush yards per game and have 10 total rushing TDs.

If 2018 results can translate to this game, then the Colts might be the more disruptive team in the trenches. Their offensive line has allowed only 16 sacks while the D-line has logged 38 sacks. The Giants O-line has allowed 46 sacks and their defense has sacked opposing QBs just 25 times.

The G-Men offense has averaged 271.1 yards through the air overall and has 20 passing scores so far. The Colts have put up 282.4 pass yards per contest and have 34 total pass TDs.

Defensively, New York has let opponents run for an average of 128.4 yards and pass for 248.9 yards per game. The Indianapolis defense has allowed 254.2 yards per game to opposing passers and 103.6 yards per game to opposing runners. Both teams allow similar adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) to opponents, as the G-Men have given up an ANY/A of 6.09 to opposing QBs, while the Colts are allowing an ANY/A of 6.12.

Offensively, Manning has amassed 3,492 passing yards this season. The signal-caller has completed 66 percent of his 480 attempts with 15 scores through the air and nine interceptions. He’s got a 5.83 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 5.68 over the last two games.

Andrew Luck has completed 348-of-516 passes for 3,552 yards, 32 TDs and 12 INTs for Indianapolis. His ANY/A sits at 6.68 for the season and 8.19 over his past two outings.
