Betting Preview: New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins
New England is the heavy road favorite and is currently giving up 17 points to Miami. If the Patriots stumble early it’ll result in a decent betting opportunity in-game. Vegas has placed the over/under (O/U) at 47 points.
The total hasn’t moved after it was initially set at 47. Having said that, the line opened at 15 so has recently moved up to 17.
The Patriots have gained 1.0 unit so far and are 1-0 against the spread (ATS). The team has posted an O/U record of 0-1.
The Dolphins have lost 1.0 unit for moneyline bettors this season. They’re 0-1 ATS and have an O/U record of 1-0.
The Patriots are 1-0 straight up (SU) and they have yet to face any AFC East opponents this year. The Dolphins are 0-1 SU overall and also 0-0 SU versus divisional foes.
The Pats are hoping to remain undefeated following a 33-3 win over Pittsburgh in Week 1 where their secondary let the Steelers throw for 276 yards. JuJu Smith-Schuster had a productive day for the Steelers in that one with 78 yards on six catches. On the offensive side of the ball, Tom Brady completed 24-of-36 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns. Sony Michel (just 14 yards on 15 rushes) led the ground attack while Julian Edelman (six receptions, 83 yards) and James White (five catches, 56 yards) shared the receiving duties in the win.
Miami just dropped a 59-10 game to Baltimore in Week 1. The defense allowed the Ravens to pass for 379 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 265 yards and two scores. Marquise Brown put up a good outing, posting 147 yards and two touchdowns on four catches for Baltimore. For Miami, Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 14-of-29 passes for 185 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Kalen Ballage (-1 yards on five rush attempts) spearheaded the running game while DeVante Parker (three receptions, 75 yards) and Preston Williams (three catches, 24 yards, one TD) led the receiving attack in the loss.
If the numbers from 2018 can translate to this year, then the Patriots might have the more disruptive lines up front. Their offensive line yielded only 21 sacks last season while the D-line registered 30 sacks. The Dolphins offensive line gave up 52 sacks last year and their defense created only 31 sacks.
