Betting Preview: Memphis Tigers vs. Ole Miss Rebels

Ole Miss is the road underdog in this game and is currently getting 6 points. The Rebels are also receiving +185 moneyline odds while the Tigers are -230. Oddsmakers have set the over/under (O/U) at 67.5 points, and if one team can find paydirt in the early stages, it’ll probably produce a decent live betting opportunity.

The line originally opened at -8 and the game’s over/under was initially pegged at 68, so early action has shifted toward the Rebels.

Against the spread (ATS) last season, the Rebels finished 3-9. The over hit in six of those games while the under cashed six times. The Tigers compiled an ATS record of 8-6 with an O/U record of 7-5-1.

Overall, the Tigers went 8-6 straight up (SU) last year while the Rebels went 5-7 in 2018. Against conference opponents, the Rebels went 1-7 SU and the Tigers were 5-3 SU when facing American Athletic Conference teams. The Rebels went 4-0 SU when playing teams out of conference while the Tigers were 3-1 SU against such teams.

The Rebels averaged 297.9 passing yards per game and 134.3 rushing yards per game against their eight in-conference opponents last year. The team managed to put up 22.0 points per game against those opponents and gave up 41.0 per contest. When facing out-of-conference competition, those numbers all improved, as they averaged 57.8 points and 26.5 points-allowed, in addition to 443.5 pass yards per game and 223.8 rush yards per game.

In matchups featuring out-of-conference foes in 2018, the Tigers passed for 299.3 yards per game and rushed for 301.3 per game on their way to 52.5 points per outing. When playing just AAC opponents, the offense managed 39.5 points per game by averaging 231.9 passing yards and 263.3 rushing yards. The Tigers defense allowed 34.0 PPG to non-conference foes and 27.3 to AAC teams

If last year’s numbers are any indication, then it appears the Tigers may hold an advantage in terms of RB effectiveness, as their running backs produced 6.4 yards per carry last season while the defense allowed 4.1 yards per rush attempt to opponents. The Rebels ran for 4.7 yards per carry last year while allowing a YPC of 5.1 to opponents.
