It seems like Matthew Stafford’s time in the concussion protocol is coming to an end. Stafford participated fully in the Rams’ practice on Wednesday, and head coach Sean McVay told reporters afterwards that he should be cleared to play by Friday. Stafford ought to be able to participate in the game against New Orleans on Sunday.
If he is completely cleared and both he and his family are satisfied with the results, McVay added, “I know he’s itching to get out there with his men.” After being included in the pregame protocol before the game at SoFi Stadium, Stafford was unable to play in Los Angeles’ Week 10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He was replaced by backup quarterback John Wolford, who battled and completed his sole touchdown pass in the waning moments of a game that was already over.
According to McVay, Wolford missed practice on Wednesday due to a neck problem. Third-stringer Bryce Perkins would likely serve as Stafford’s backup if he is unable to suit up for Sunday’s game, assuming the veteran clears protocol as McVay anticipated.
