The Amari Rodgers project was formally abandoned by the Green Bay Packers. On Tuesday, the Packers made the wide receiver’s release official. The Packers’ head coach, Matt LaFleur, told reporters, “That one stings a lot, simply in terms of how much this meant to him and how he accomplished all we wanted him to do.”
“A fantastic teammate, he was. He was clearly developing, yet our industry is built on output. I have a lot of respect for him, and I’m sure he’ll have another chance. I wish him nothing but the best because sometimes that’s the best thing for people in this league—you go through a little adversity and get a new start somewhere else.”
Rodgers has had a difficult time returning punts this season, fumbling four times, including a crucial blunder in Sunday’s overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Following his fumble on Sunday, Keisean Nixon took over as the punt returner for Rodgers.
