Jerry Tillery, a first-round selection in 2019, is leaving the Los Angeles Chargers, although he’s not really going very far. According to a source, Tillery has been claimed by the Las Vegas Raiders, according to NFL Network Insider on Monday. The purchase was subsequently announced by the group. The Chargers, who selected Tillery with the 28th overall pick four years ago, confirmed on Thursday night that he had been released. Tillery is currently moving to a rival AFC West team.
Earlier in the season, Tillery attracted trade interest, according to Rapoport, including from the Raiders, who will now turn to the defensive lineman to potentially inject some life into a sputtering defense. Tillery wasn’t a good match for the Chargers, who may soon see their former defensive lineman when Las Vegas plays home to Los Angeles on December 4.
The Chargers rejected Tillery’s fifth-year option this spring. The Raiders will be responsible for paying the remaining balance of his current contract because his base salary was scheduled to be $2.05 million in 2022.
