Mike McCarthy is focused on succeeding rather than going back to Green Bay

While defeating his previous club won’t necessarily increase the Cowboys coach’s incentive for a victory in Week 10, Mike McCarthy’s return to Lambeau Field on Sunday does set the stage for a match with emotional links for both sides. McCarthy, speaking through the team’s website, stated, “I simply want to win the game. Is that good enough?” McCarthy’s extensive and fruitful time with the Packers stands out as a noteworthy period for a team with a storied past. McCarthy oversaw a delicate transition from one Hall of Fame quarterback to another, and his 125 regular-season victories as Packers coach stand as the second-most in the team’s illustrious history. From 2006 to 2018, McCarthy’s time in Green Bay included six NFC North titles, four NFC Championship Game appearances, and a victory in Super Bowl XLV. The Packers finally let McCarthy go after a Week 13 loss, bringing an unceremonious conclusion to his tenure with the team. Prior to receiving a call from the Cowboys ahead of the 2022 season, the soon-to-be 59-year-old coach took a year sabbatical from coaching.
