The Patriots’ starting quarterback for their Sunday game against the New York Jets is Mac Jones. Jones made his return to action against Chicago in Week 7 after missing three games due to a high ankle sprain sustained in Week 3.
While Jones was out with an injury, backup quarterback Bailey Zappe started two games and won both of them. His performance raised concerns about whether or not he could take over as the starter after Jones returned from injury. Jones has been selected to reclaim the starting position from Zappe and is now considered to be fully healthy and off the injured list.
In keeping with coach Bill Belichick’s reputation for keeping his cards close to his chest, Jones refrained from confirming the information when speaking with reporters on Wednesday. Jones said, when asked explicitly if he will start on Sunday, “I plan to start every game that I’ve ever played in. I always make an effort to get ready to start.”
