According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Orlando Brown and the Chiefs are not anticipated to reach an agreement on a long-term deal by Friday, and the offensive lineman is likely to skip training camp.
In recent days, Brown and his representative have spoken with the Chiefs about an extension, but the parties haven’t come close to agreeing on a deal. If a deal isn’t reached, Brown is expected to miss the start of camp and possibly the entire season, with “even Week 1” being a possibility, according to Garafolo.
Brown is aiming for top-of-the-market compensation at the position (roughly $23 million), which has long been his goal. However, according to Garafolo, the Chiefs’ offers have been consistent with top compensation for a right tackle ($19 million). Brown played at left tackle last season, fulfilling a long-held ambition. Friday at 16:00 is the cutoff time for tagged players to sign long-term contracts.
