After clinching a contract to become the highest-paid safety in the NFL, Minkah Fitzpatrick is beginning his summer break with a handsome paycheck. Fitzpatrick’s agent, WME Sports, revealed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday that the Pittsburgh Steelers had signed their top safety to a four-year agreement for more than $18.4 million per year.
Additionally, Fitzpatrick received a guaranteed $36 million when signing, according to Schefter. Fitzpatrick said, “I am extremely excited. Right now, I still feel a little shocked. It’s a good thing. I’m really happy right now. It’s only the start. I appreciate you. I’m grateful. I really want to keep cutting right now.” In addition to the one year Fitzpatrick had remaining on his previous contract, the five-year agreement also includes a four-year extension that will begin in 2023. It surpasses Jamal Adams’ $17.5 million yearly agreement and is the first significant contract that Omar Khan, the new general manager of the Pittsburgh Steelers, has negotiated. Fitzpatrick was a Dolphins player who was traded. By making this choice, the Steelers have also massively invested in T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward, cementing their spots on the club through the end of 2024.
