Betting Preview: Los Angeles Rams vs. Chicago Bears

Chicago is the road underdog in this NFC game and is currently being given 7 points. The Bears are also receiving +230 moneyline odds while the Rams are -280. Vegas has placed the over/under (O/U) at 40 points, and if one side catches a lucky break early, it would likely produce a nice in-game betting opportunity.

Sharp bettors are siding with both the Bears and the under. The line originally opened at -8 while the over/under was initially set at 42.

The Bears have lost 4.5 units this season and are 3-6 against the spread (ATS). They’ve been a good under bet and have posted an O/U record of 3-6.

The Rams have lost 3.2 units for moneyline bettors in 2019. They’re 6-3 ATS and also own an O/U record of 3-6.

The Bears have gone 4-5 straight up (SU) in 2019 while the Rams are 5-4 SU.

The Bears just got a 20-13 victory over Detroit last week where their secondary allowed the Lions to pass for 269 yards. Marvin Jones Jr. had a good day for the Lions in that one with 77 yards on five catches. On the offensive side of the ball, Mitchell Trubisky completed 16-of-23 passes for just 173 yards and three touchdowns. David Montgomery (60 rushing yards on 17 attempts) led the ground attack in the win. Allen Robinson II (six receptions, 86 yards) and Tarik Cohen (four catches, 23 yards, one TD) shared the receiving duties.

In Week 10, Pittsburgh knocked off this Los Angeles crew by a score of 17-12. The Rams allowed the Steelers to put up 242 passing yards and 42 rushing yards. James Washington put up a productive showing, recording 90 yards on six catches for Pittsburgh. For Los Angeles, Jared Goff completed 22-of-41 passes for 243 yards and two interceptions. Todd Gurley II (73 yards on 12 rush attempts) spearheaded the ground game in the defeat while Gerald Everett (eight receptions, 68 yards) and Robert Woods (seven catches, 95 yards) led the receiving corps.

Chicago has run the ball on 40.7 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Los Angeles has a rush percentage of 38.3 percent. The Bears have rushed for 80.6 yards per game and have five touchdowns via handoffs this year. The Rams are putting up 96.2 rush yards per game and have 11 total rushing TDs.

If the numbers so far this season are any indication, then it appears the Rams could have an advantage in all aspects of the ground game. Their backfield has generated 3.9 yards per carry while their defense is allowing a YPC of 3.3 to opponents. The Bears have tallied 3.5 yards per carry while allowing a YPC of 3.7 to opponents.

The Bears offense has averaged 201.8 yards through the air overall and has 11 passing scores so far. The Rams have put up 292.6 pass yards per outing and also have 11 total pass TDs.

Chicago has allowed opponents to run for an average of 94 yards and pass for 253.2 yards per game. The Los Angeles defense has given up 258.7 yards per game to opposing passers and 90.8 yards per game to opposing runners. The Bears are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of only 5.46 to opponents, while the Rams have given up a 6.01 ANY/A.

Offensively, Trubisky is up to 1,265 passing yards this year. He’s connected on 142-of-218 attempts with eight passing scores and three interceptions. Trubisky has a 4.96 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 5.90 over the last two games.

David Montgomery, Taylor Gabriel and Allen Robinson II have combined for 335 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns over the last two outings.

In the home locker room, Jared Goff has completed 197-of-324 passes for 2,238 yards, nine TDs and nine INTs. Goff’s ANY/A sits at 5.58 for the season and 7.11 over his past two outings.

Expect Goff to distribute the football early and often in this one. Cooper Kupp (572 receiving yards and four receiving TDs this season), Robert Woods (530 receiving yards), and Josh Reynolds (83 receiving yards) have collectively put up 473 receiving yards and two TDs over the last couple of games, seeing 14, 13, and 13 targets respectively over that stretch.

These two teams met last year with the final outcome being a 15-6 win for Chicago.
