The Vikes are trying to bounce back after a 16-6 defeat to Chicago in Week 4. The passing attack was on point as Kirk Cousins completed 27 passes on 36 attempts for 233 yards. Dalvin Cook (only 35 yards on 14 rush attempts, one TD) provided the ground attack while Stefon Diggs (seven receptions, 108 yards) and Cook (six catches, 35 yards) shared the receiving duties in the defeat.
New York is coming off of a 24-3 win over Washington a week ago. Daniel Jones completed 23-of-31 passes for 225 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Wayne Gallman Jr. (63 rushing yards on 18 attempts, one TD) and Jon Hilliman (33 yards on 10 carries) handled the running game while Sterling Shepard (seven receptions, 76 yards) and Gallman Jr. (six catches, 55 yards, one TD) led the pass-catching corps in the win.
Minnesota has run the ball on 54.6 percent of its offensive possessions this year while New York has a rush percentage of 36.8 percent. The Vikings have produced 155.3 rush yards per game and have eight touchdowns on the ground this year. The G-Men are averaging 129 rushing yards per game and have five total rush TDs.
The Vikes offense has averaged 183.8 yards in the air overall and has three passing scores so far. The G-Men have put up 283.5 pass yards per outing and have five total pass TDs.
On the defensive side of the ball, Minnesota seems to have the upper hand in both facets. The team has allowed 94.3 rush yards and 239.8 pass yards per game. The New York defense has allowed 295.5 yards per game to opposing passers and 109.8 yards per game on the ground. The Vikes are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of only 5.56 to opponents, while the G-Men have given up a 7.69 ANY/A.
Offensively, Cousins is up to 561 passing yards this season, and has connected on 63 percent of his 78 attempts with two scores through the air and two interceptions. He has a 5.26 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 5.97 over the last two outings.
We’re expecting the Vikings to control tempo by putting the ball into the hands of their running backs. Along with Stefon Diggs (194 yards, one TD), Dalvin Cook (300 rush yards, four rush TDs, 81 receiving yards) and Alexander Mattison (79 rush yards) have really been focal points in the Minnesota offensive scheme.
Daniel Jones has managed to complete 26-of-35 passes for 242 yards, one TD and two INTs for New York. His ANY/A stands at 4.91 for the year and 7.04 over his past two games.
The G-Men should also look to control the clock by turning to their backfield. In addition to Sterling Shepard (118 receiving yards), Evan Engram (218 receiving yards and one receiving TD) and Wayne Gallman Jr. (80 rush yards, two rush TDs, 79 receiving yards, one TD) have seen a multitude of touches recently.
