The Noles defensive unit let the Orange kill the clock by running for 222 yards on 57 rush attempts, including two rush TDs. Moe Neal put up a solid outing in the win for Syracuse, recording 75 rushing yards on 19 attempts. For Florida State, Deondre Francois completed 18-of-36 passes for 178 yards and one interception. Cam Akers (52 rushing yards on 10 attempts) led the running game while Keith Gavin (six receptions, 79 yards) and Nyqwan Murray (three catches, 31 yards) led the pass-catching corps in the loss.

Northern Illinois has run the ball on 61.7 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Florida State has a rush percentage of 42.2 percent.
