Kenta Maeda is getting the nod for the visiting Dodgers. The right-handed Maeda is 2-3 with a 4.75 ERA and 46 strikeouts. He’s 0-0 with seven strikeouts and a 1.50 ERA against Miami this year.

The Marlins will put the ball in the left hand of Caleb Smith (2-4, 3.63 ERA, 1.24 WHIP), who has 53 strikeouts and 19 walks. Smith has yet to face the Dodgers this year and did not record a start against them in 2017.

As a unit, Miami’s pitching staff has given up 5.3 runs per game overall in 2018. Its starters have a 4.67 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 7.8 strikeouts per nine innings. The bullpen has a 5.52 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 9.7 K/9.

The Miami offense has produced 3.5 runs per outing, including 4.3 per game over its last 10 games and 4.8 per game over its last five. The team has a slash-line of .307/.368/.464 over its last five games and is 3-2 SU during that span.

The Marlins hitters have been led by first baseman Justin Bour and catcher J.T. Realmuto. Bour is slashing .246/.387/.484 with nine home runs, 23 RBIs and 15 runs scored, and Realmuto’s line is .316/.375/.558 with six homers, 12 RBIs and 16 runs.

Compared to his overall season slash line of .278/.332/.451, Realmuto didn’t do as well hitting against right-handed pitching at home last season, hitting .194/.260/.269 across 204 plate appearances.

In the other dugout, Los Angeles pitching staff allowed 4.3 runs per game and its starters own a 3.61 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 9.93 K/9. The bullpen has logged an ERA of 4.54, along with a WHIP of 1.24 and a K/9 of 9.25.

Putting up a slash line of .143/.250/.238 across 48 such plate appearances, Grandal didn’t perform especially well against left-handed pitching on the road last season (compared to his overall season slash line of .247/.308/.459).

The Dodgers have lost 4.5 units and are 6-9 ATS when facing a lefty starter this season. The over has cashed in three of those games, compared to 11 that’ve gone under against left-handed starting pitchers. On the other hand, the Marlins have lost 2.5 units and are 14-16 ATS when facing a right-handed starting pitcher. The over has hit in 14 of those games, as opposed to 16 which went under the total.
